Appearance
A medium brown colored wrapper leaf with a couple of prominent but thin veins, tightly wrapped almost invisible seams and a nice oily sheen. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.
Aroma
Earth, hay, leather and a mild spice on the wrapper leaf.
Not much aroma at the foot.
Prelight Draw
Graham cracker, vegetal, earth, cedar and warm cinnamon spice.
1st
The initial draws bring notes of earth and warm cinnamon spice. To say the draw is tight would be an understatement. Vegetal notes join the profile. The ash is medium gray and stacked. The burn is slightly uneven. The draw is beginning to open up. Dried fruit notes join the profile. The ash held firm and straight until removal.
2nd
The draw has opened up a lot but is still a tick snug. Graham cracker notes join the profile. Cedar notes join the profile. The draw fully opens up just before the midway point of the cigar. Strength is medium. Smoke production is at the medium range. The burn has almost fully self corrected with the help of simple physics. The finish is long with notes of earth, graham cracker, cedar, vegetal, dried fruit and warm cinnamon spice.
Final/3rd
The well balanced and flavorful profile continues unchanged into the final/3rd. The spice becomes like crushed red pepper. The profile remains consistent right to the nub.
Overall
The HVC Vieja Cosecha #2 Doble Figurado provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced and flavorful profile with a good draw and burn from the midway point of the cigar to the nub.
